Cort Turn's 4!

Cort has been looking forward to his birthday for quite some time, and we've been counting down the days.  He awoke bright and early this morning at 6:15 excited to start the big celebration.  He ended up waking both Cash and I around 6:30 and then started trying to convince Bret to get out of bed so that he could open his presents and eat breakfast. 

He had decided weeks ago that he wanted "Swedish Pancakes" for breakfast (aka crepes or danish hot cakes), however this morning he said he didn't know if he wanted them, because he didn't want to get messy on his birthday.  We talked about his breakfast options and he ended up deciding that he really did want Swedish Pancakes.  I had decorated the kitchen the night before, and had set out all his presents, so of course he decided that we needed to open his presents before breakfast.

He opened up most of his presents, but his last present was too big to wrap so he got to go on a "treasure hunt" to find it.  This is a tradition my parents did for us when we were little.  Some of the cards were outdated and faded, but there were still plenty to make for a fun hunt.  Of course Cort knew what his "big" gift was, it was the one thing he had been asking for over and over again....also he may have found where mom was hiding it a few days ago...Oops!  Luckily even though it wasn't a complete surprise he was still thrilled with his very own "big kid bike", and even more thrilled that he had gotten a bell and a horn to go with it.

After presents were opened he was ready for breakfast.  He usually eats 4-5 pancakes, but the excitement got to him and he barely finished one, before bolting to go play.  

 He taught Cash and Bret how to play don't break the ice, and let Cash try on his cool new watch.  Once mom was ready for the day it was finally time to test out his roller skates and new bike.  He was so cute to watch, he definitely has a lot of practice to do to learn how to roller skate,  he kept telling me that he was so glad he got matching knee and elbow pads.

Of course Cash had to try out the knee and elbow pads too!

After testing out his new wheels, we headed out for some fun.  We originally planned to go to Trafalga, but since they weren't open we ended up at Boondocks, where Cort was able to win some fun prizes.  After playing we grabbed some lunch from Chik-fila, since Cort had gotten a coupon for a free kids meal for his birthday.  The boys loved their play place... I have a feeling Cort will be asking to go there again soon.  We even got to see Shayna and Lucy (and Nyla) while we were there.  We came home to give Cash a nap.

When grandma and grandpa came home Cort got to open another present, and have another "treasure hunt" this time with some updated clue cards!  Grandma and Grandpa gave him a cool Spiderman punching bag, and a puzzle.... he was thrilled, and Cash was too, in fact Cash thought the presents were his!  Or at least he hoped they were. Luckily Trent helped distract him with mom's phone, so that Cort could play with his gifts first.

After the presents we ate dinner.  Cort requested blue jell-o, and pizza for dinner.

 He got a cool "jack o lantern" pizza from Papa Murphys.  He had picked out a number 4 candle for his cake, but as the day went on he decided he really wanted four candles to blow out.  We ended up letting him put the #4 on his pizza, so he got to blow out candles twice.  We sang happy birthday to him and told him to make a wish.  His wish was that his pizza would come to life.... unfortunately or maybe fortunately it didn't come true.  But it sure tasted good!

 After dinner came the cake and ice cream.  Cort's first request for a cake was Mater, with Popeye and the Turtle man riding in the back.... luckily uncle Trent came to the rescue and showed him some of his favorite cakes, and Cort decided what he really wanted was a gumball machine.

 Everyone laughed and gave Cort a hard time about wishing that his pizza would come to life, so this time he wished that the trees would come to life, so that they could lift him to the top when he was too tired to climb!  This kid seriously cracks me up!

 Cort's favorite part of his cake was the chocolate coins!

 Cash loved it all!

All in all it was a great day, Cort was spoiled rotten and loved it.  Thanks again for all of the birthday wishes/cards and phone calls, you all helped make his day.

I am so thankful to have such a wonderful little boy, who makes me smile and laugh on a daily basis. I can't believe he is already four.  

  One of the cutest things he does these days is makes me play what he calls the "i love you game".  I am not entirely sure when or how this started but he makes me play at least once a day if not more.  How do you play?  

I start by saying, "I love you!" 

Then he says, "No I love you"  

I then repeat, "No, I love you", 

after we say this back and forth a few times 

I say, "We love each other" 

he says, "We DO love each other!"  

Then he tells me I am his best friend.... it seriously melts my heart.
